What you will learn

Please come and join me for an insight into Thai Stretching Massage applied on a table.

The practice of Thai Massage is said to be thousands of years old but it is still part of Thailand’s medical system due to its perceived healing properties at both emotional and physical level.

There are differences in certain practices associated with the massage when performed in the Western and Thai contexts.

The hallmarks of Thai massage, including Table Thai stretching massage, include: the use of momentum and gravity rather than muscular strength; work along energy lines called sen lines; rocking; and range-of-motion assisted stretching. The techniques used in a Thai massage are also quite different. The compressions are performed very slowly and cover the entire body from the feet all the way up to the head and face. It is a combination of massage and also passive stretching – this means that the massage therapist will stretch your body for you.

There is constant body contact between the giver and receiver, but rather than rubbing on muscles, the body is compressed, pulled, stretched and rocked.

Thai massage therapists use many parts of their body – their thumbs, palms, elbows, and even feet and knees – to pull, press, and stretch the body. This is done to loosen the joints and relax the body. Also, it is said to unblock energy along the sen pathways, the removal of blockages in energy lines help to promote an increase in energy levels, Relaxation and removal of stress from body and mind. Acupressure and stretching techniques to bring about pain relief relief of muscular tension and an increase of flexibility and range of motion in muscles and limbs, Aids harmonisation of imbalances in the nervous system and improves blood and lymph flow, improvement in posture.

Traditional Thai massage uses no oils or lotions though this has been adapted to suit the clients needs during the massage, The recipient can remain clothed or unclothed during a treatment, tho its important to protect their modesty during the treatment.

The concept of metta (loving kindness), based on Bhuddist teachings, is an integral part of this practice. Well known practitioners also emphasize meditation and devotion on part of the practitioner as integral to the effectiveness of this practice.
